Thursday, Aug. 28. You know one of the things I like about IndyFringe shows? It's up close and personal theatre! This often results in an intense and compelling experience for patrons who may be seated just an arm's length from the performers, as here at Theatre on the Square Stage 2, during Thursday's performance of My Friend Hitler, featuring Zehra Fazal from Newport News, Virginia.

Tuesday, Aug. 26. Something happened at ComedySportz that hasn't happened once in the four years I've been an IndyFringe volunteer—at least until tonight. When I asked to take photos of one of the shows for the IndyFringe Web site, I was curtly told, "No photos." When I explained why I was taking pictures, it was flatly reiterated, "No photos." Hence, no photos from ComedySportz tonight.

Tuesday, Aug. 26. The smart and thought-provoking skit pictured above, involving an adversarial encounter between an atheist and a devout Catholic, from The Best of the Blizzard, had what could only be termed a "happy ending." The show continues at the Phoenix on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 30-31.

Tuesday, Aug. 26. This dance routine was part of the Common Humanity show at the American Cabaret Theatre, presented by Firefall Dance Theatre. Three shows remain on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Tuesday, Aug. 26. IndyFringe would not be possible without the cooperation of a volunteer force of more than 600 civic-minded individuals working in a variety of roles from gallery concierge to ticket takers to ushers to you name it. Whenever something needs done, it seems there is always a volunteer willing to jump in and take care of it. Thank you to our wonderful volunteer force! Volunteer photos by Dan Axler.

Monday, Aug. 25. Local self-professed theatre junkie Hope Baugh, writer, reviewer and publisher of the Indy Theatre Habit blog, chats with IndyFringe Web Manager Bob Burchfield right out on Mass Ave (adjacent to Yats) before Monday's Improscaping show at the Phoenix. Hear the 2 minute, 30 second MP3 (1.9MB): click here.

Monday, Aug. 25. Susanne Carter from Milwaukee, Wisconsin was Improscaping at the Phoenix Theatre on Monday evening. The show continues through the weekend in the Black Box Theatre downstairs at the Phoenix.

Monday, Aug. 25. Walter and Sidney argue about everything in the Sidney Unlimited production of Good Grief, Sidney at ComedySportz Arena, now through Sunday.

Monday, Aug. 25. Now be honest: When was the last time you saw traffic cones being juggled? Well...if you had been at Theatre on the Square tonight, you could honestly have answered: "just a little while ago!" Brent McCoy managed this and other feats of skill to the delight of the audience, all without breaking his neck! Clown at Work plays through Sunday on the TOTS Mainstage.

SUNDAY, AUG. 24. Loren Niemi from Minneapolis, Minnesota was "Alone and Testifying" at Theatre on the Square Stage 2 on Sunday afternoon.

SUNDAY, AUG. 24. She's the "Katalina" in Christian and Katalina (the better-looking half of the duo, we might add!), and when she closes her eyes, as here during today's performance, LOOK OUT: something magic is about to happen! Mental Shock continues at Theatre on the Square through Sunday, August 31, 2008.

SUNDAY, AUG. 24. Roland Sarlot and Susan Eyde from Tucson, Arizona, put on a "razor-sharp" show at American Cabaret Theatre this afternoon as part of IndyFringe 2008. Magical Cabaret continues at ACT throughout the festival.

SATURDAY, AUG. 23. Captain Connie Tobias of Charlotte, NC, noted Harriet Quimby re-enactor, who has flown the Atlantic over 1,000 times as a pilot for US Airways, took the day off and flew into Indy on Saturday to surprise the cast and crew of Jealous Sky.
Tobias, who has been re-enacting Quimby for nine years and who flies a 1909 Bleriot in her re-enactments, came to Indianapolis to see Jealous Sky when she heard that Harriet Quimby was meeting Amelia Earhart above the clouds.
"It's about time," she told the cast when she surprised them in the dressing room after Saturday's show. "You nailed her," she told everyone: the politics, the tensions, the personalities of these two ambitious fliers from another generation. After 26 years in the cockpit alongside men, Tobias said she knows exactly what Earhart and Quimby faced as they conquered the air.
Afterwards over coffee on Mass Ave she told Cindy Phillips (Harriet), Kimberly Lester (Amelia) and the playwright Paul L. Bancel that they had the flying aspects of the play down perfectly. The Bleriot weighs only 700 pounds and every body movement in the plane effects its balance. Flying the Bleriot is constant attention. Tobias's own theory about Quimby's fatal plunge in Boston in 1912 is that the tail developed too much lift as they headed down for a landing and pitched the plane forward.
Jealous Sky continues at TOTS Stage 2 through Saturday, Aug. 30.
