IndyFringe Basile Theatre

The l00 seat IndyFringe Basile Theatre serves as a low cost rehearsal and performance space in a city which has very few such amenities. The theatre offers a year round eclectic mix of emerging artists, new plays, established theatre groups, returning Fringe performers and community events which continually change and attract a diverse audience. The theatre is one of the five theatres and seven stages on Massachussets Avenue which host the annual IndyFringe festival.  In the three years since the IndyFringe Theatre began operating, tens of thousands of people have attended shows or events. The theatre has hosted hundreds of productions and events including plays, spoken world, art exhibitions, community meetings and fundraising events.
 
IndyFringe has hepled numerous emerging companies including Intimate Opera Company, PaperStrangers, NoExit Performance, Half/Black Productions, Avenging Orange, No Holds Bard, Funny About That, T.I.F.F. Productions  and more! The Fringe has helped expand the number of artistic voices contributing to Indianapolis culture and community. The theatre provides them with a home to develop their craft any time of the year. 
 
COLLABORATIONS:
  • Jabberwocky, Storytelling Arts of Indiana - monthly gathering of regular people who share their collective memories. Topics include enduring love stories, random acts of kindness and food.   Further collaborations within Jabberwocky include car stories with Big Car Gallery, a visual arts group and books with Travis Di Nicola of Indy Reads, an organization which works to improve the literacy skills of adults.   • Young Actors Theatre “Teen Series” - plays which create awareness of the warning signs, danger and support services available for issues of drug abuse, dating violence, eating disorders, depression and youth suicide.  
  • Annual Winter Magic Festival which brings together the top magicians from around the US. Indianapolis is becoming a center for magic thanks to the work of Fringe performer, Taylor Martin who kick-started his career at IndyFringe.
  • The Intimate Opera Company – the newly formed opera company debuted at the IndyFringe Festival and continues to regularly delight audiences by making high art accessbile to all.

  • Spring 2013 marks the fourth annual juried DivaFest – A Celebration of Women Playwrights where playwrights can take their play from ‘page to stage’.   Only l7% of all works on American stages are by women.   The long range goal is to make Indianapolis a center for developing women playwrights.  
  • The Second Annual Onyx Fest will be held in May of 2013. As Indianapolis' first and only theatre festival dedicated to the stories of African American playwrights, Onyx Fest was developed in response to the lack of diversity on stage and in audiences of Indianapolis' theatres.
 
COLLEGIATE SERIES :
IndyFringe has a long history of working closely with institutions of higher learning. In 2012 participants will include Wisdom Tooth Productions, Anderson University and Indiana University’s Group de Teatre VIDA for Spanish language plays. Fringe gives these organizations the chance to perform for new audiences in an established Indianapolis Cultural District.        
 
TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES:
IndyFringe provides opportunities for young theatre technicians, arts administration and theatre students with a hands-on practical learning experience. The IndyFringe Theatre creates jobs for local designers and technicians. State of the art lighting from Electronic Theatre Controls now provides educational opportunities and hands-on experience in theatre technology that will help train the next generation of theatre technicians.   For opportunities to work during the festival or year round at the theatre, contact Tech Director, Pat McCarney - indyfringetech@gmail.com
