Not Exactly Paris

Creator: Parker Nolen

Featuring the music of Elvis, Blondie, Peter Cincotti, Michael Leonard and others, "Not Exactly Paris" is an evening of jazz and storytelling.

Described as "funny and touching" by the DC Cabaret Network, the audience is guided on a personal yet universal journey of love and loss.

Originally from Indianapolis, Parker arrived in the Washington DC area in 2017 (by way of Seattle, San Francisco, Atlanta, Montreal, Nashville, Saint Louis, and Dallas). He is a classically-trained singer and for the last 30 years has performed with orchestras and chorales in concert halls across North America - notably Carnegie Hall (Mozart Requiem) and Davies Symphony Hall (Britten's War Requiem).

Parker started solo jazz performances in 2010. He is just as comfortable in a concert hall as he is a listening room and has been performing to steady acclaim on the cabaret and jazz scene since his debut at the Something COOL Cabaret Festival in San Francisco.

Turning from classical to jazz, however, required some work but he has been fortunate to study with Linda Kosut, Melinda Doolittle, Lua Hadar, Karen Mason, and Alan Paul. He has performed in many of the San Francisco Bay Area jazz and cabaret venues, including the Savannah Jazz Club, the Octavia Lounge, and Martuni’s.

With honest storytelling and compelling vocal interpretations, he has been described as "funny and touching" by the DC Cabaret Network and he takes his audiences on a journey to discover our shared experiences. Parker’s first two one-man shows with the Tom Shaw Trio, “Odds Are Good but Goods Are Odd” and “” performed to sold-out audiences in San Francisco. His next show, “Not Exactly Paris”, will premiere in June 2019.

Parker is an Indianapolis native and a graduate of Ben Davis High School.
