“As you have probably noticed (and that’s why you’re here), IndyFringe Theatre is changing our name to IF Theatre. It might be clear to you where the IF came from, the I from Indy and the F from Fringe. What may not be as clear is why we are making this change. The “why” is one of clarity. After spending hundreds of hours meeting and conversing with people across our community, I found a universal difficulty in separating IndyFringe Theatre from The IndyFringe Festival – even if it was only in how to speak about the two.

IF Theatre is a clearly defined entity, one that will operate year-round. The IndyFringe Festival is an amazing 11-day theatre festival that happens once a year. IF Theatre helps make new theatrical experiences possible. IndyFringe Festival is one of those theatrical experiences.
Now imagine how IF Theatre will work to develop artists of all levels, training and connecting actors, designers, directors, and audiences. The IndyFringe Festival gives artists an incredible crash course, hands-on lesson in producing theatre, but IF theatre offers classes on production, new programs dedicated to new plays, climate justice, social justice, or neighborhood connections.

In short, we’re keeping all the wonderfulness of IndyFringe, while providing a more defined framework for what we do year-round, and how the Festival functions as one of our many bold and exciting programs throughout the year.

I hope you like it as much as we do. IF you do, join us at one of our events. What IF this one is where you meet your new best friend? What IF this is the one that changes your life? What IF you simply have a good time? Any way you look at it, asking, “What IF…?” creates a world full of possibility.”
